چکیده

As the information management paradigm shifts from data management to knowledge management, active rule support for various information services has become a practical approach to add intelligence to the existing information management systems. Various active rule systems have been developed using different rule description languages and, yet, their business logics are not sharable with each other. In this paper, we propose an XML-based ECA rule definition language, called Active Rule Markup Language (ARML). ARML provides an XML-based uniform rule description for the sharing of business rules among heterogeneous active rule processing systems. Business rules are made interoperable and therefore reusable through ARML when mapped to ARML rule description facility. We discuss the language construct, the proposed rule interoperability, and a prototype implementation.

An Executive Approach Based On the Production of Fuzzy Ontology Using the Semantic Web Rule Language Method (SWRL)

Today, the need to deal with ambiguous information in semantic web languages is increasing. Ontology is an important part of the W3C standards for the semantic web, used to define a conceptual standard vocabulary for the exchange of data between systems, the provision of reusable databases, and the facilitation of collaboration across multiple systems. However, classical ontology is not enough ...

Transaction Management in Active Heterogeneous Database Systems

The heterogeneous environment is emerging in the current information systems. Within this situation, it is desirable to maintain consistency across databases, i.e., to ensure that they do not contradict each other with respect to the existence or value of real-world entity. Active rules have been widely used in the modern database systems. Active databases contain the capability to automatic mo...

Enhanced active databases for federated information systems

Federated information systems provide access to interrelated data that is distributed over multiple autonomous and heterogeneous data sources. The integration of these sources demands for flexible and extensible architectures that balance both, the highest possible autonomy and a reasonable degree of information sharing. In current federated information systems, the integrated data sources do o...

Structural Issues in Active Rule Systems

Active database systems enhance the functionality of traditional databases through the use of active rules or`triggers'. There is little consensus, though, on what components should be included in a rule system. In this paper, the expressive power of some simple active database rule systems is examined and the eeect of choosing diierent features studied. Four important parameters of variation a...
